To be considered a Motor home a unit must have at least four of the following permanently installed living systems: cooking area, refrigerator, toilet, heating or air conditioning system, a portable water system with a water tank, a faucet and a sink, a separate 100-125 volt electrical system,a sleeping area and a propane gas supply. The specifications for being defined as a motor home are pretty clear.

Now obviously a motorized RV is one in which the RV itself can be driven. It doesn't have to be attached to another vehicle and towed. There are obvious advantages to motorized RVs. It is more convenient not having to worry about attaching and then reattaching a trailer to a car or a truck. Usually motorized RVs are more expensive but not always. You could get a towed RV that is really decked out. It isn't usual but then everyone has different ideas and likes. So aside from its larger size and having a longer stopping distance, a motorized Recreational Vehicle responds much like a car and this makes learning to drive one easy for most people. There are obviously some other things that a new RV driver will have to get used to but it really isn't that difficult.

Now there are also non motorized RVs as well. These are commonly referred to as Recreational Trailers. The appeal of this type of RV is that they are usually smaller. Some people do prefer a smaller RV. Not everyone thinks that bigger and more is better. Another plus to a tow behind is that they are cost effective, meaning that they usually are cheaper than the motorized version RVs. There are many different types of tow behind recreational vehicles and choosing one is a very personal decision for any consumer. You have to decide what the best recreational vehicle model is that is going to work for you.

Recreational Trailers are designed to be towed by a motorized vehicle that is of a size that doesn't need to have a special highway permit. This recreational vehicle is designed to provide temporary living quarters for the consumer. It is primarily used for recreation, camping and travel use. The non motorized RV also does not require a permanent on-site hookup. It does however usually have to be unhooked from the tow vehicle and leveled and set up when the recreational vehicle owner is ready to set down on a site. Some of the recreational trailers that are attached to their tow vehicles don't need to be taken off and leveled. They are ready to go just as they are. This can be a simply situation. The fact that this type of RV is usually cheaper as well can be very appealing for someone on a tighter budget.

So the choice of whether to pick a motorized recreational vehicle, a tow behind recreational vehicle, or recreational vehicle trailer is a highly subjective decision. A consumer decided what they like and what is going to work well for them and their family. Sometimes you just don't know what you like until you lay your eyes on it. So after all the research as to which type is the best then it is off to actually look at the recreational vehicles. Pick the style and design that you are going to be happiest with.
