Recreational Vehicle Life-Are you the "Full-Timer" Type?

So you are close to retirement and you are thinking about what you want to do during the next stage of your life. Whether you are an experienced recreational vehicle owner or not, you may have thought about what it would be like to live in your recreational vehicle full time. Although this lifestyle is not for everyone, some people find it a very appealing way to live. If you are married or living with a partner, you must both be in agreement about this lifestyle for it to work effectively. It is not the life that everyone dreams of and the recreational vehicle life may not even be what you imagine it to be like.

The first thing that you will need to consider when you are thinking about being a full-timer in your recreational vehicle is how easy it will be for you to cut ties with your former life. If you have lived in the same brick and mortar home for the last 30 years, then changing to a life on the road may be very difficult. You also have to consider the relationships you have built over time. These will change if you are moving from place to place. If you have family, how will they feel about your new recreational vehicle lifestyle? Although they should not decide for you, in order to maintain those relationships you may want to consider their feelings.

But, on the flip side of this issue, it is possible that you will be able to spend more time with family and friends because you will not be tied down to one location in your recreational vehicle and you won't have to worry about the upkeep on a home, or your job, etc. You can visit whomever you like, for as long as you like.

Are you good with change? If you have had the same routine out of choice for your entire adult life, it will probably not be easy to adjust to a recreational vehicle life where you may stay in a different place every night and your routine varies not only from day to day but sometimes from hour to hour. If this type of stability is important to you, you may not want to live in a recreational vehicle.

But, if change excites you and you like to be spontaneous and experience new things every day, you may want to look into the full-time recreational vehicle life. When the weather changes and gets extreme in one area (such as Phoenix in the summer or Minnesota in the winter) you can simply pack up and move to a new area. If you like one area really well, you can find a recreational vehicle park that you like and spend some time there. Then, when you are ready to move on, or if something comes up, you just pack up your recreational vehicle and leave-you don't have to worry about selling your home, stopping the mail, etc. You have more freedom than you do with a regular home.

To maintain a full-time recreational vehicle lifestyle you need to be creative, flexible, confident, independent, and adventurous. You also need to make sure that you are financially secure enough to maintain this lifestyle over several years rather than a few weeks at a time. Living full-time in a recreational vehicle of any type is a serious commitment and an investment of time and money. Weigh all of your options carefully before you decide whether or not this lifestyle is for you. If it isn't-don't worry, you can still find many opportunities to enjoy the recreational vehicle lifestyle-on the weekends.
