Class A Motorhomes are the Elite of the Recreational Vehicle World and the Most Comfortable Way to Hit the Road

class a motorhome

Class A motorhomes have a prominent physical appearance, resembling a bus. The front end of this class of RV is flat, with a very large windshield. This class of recreational vehicle is considered the “top of the line” among RV’s, as they are larger in size and most of the time their interiors are quite elegant. These big rigs typically start at a length of 21 feet, and are available up to a length of 40 feet. They range in weight from 15,000-30,000 pounds, with a chassis that resembles a truck chassis. This model of RV can accommodate 6-8 people, depending on the size. The larger the unit, the more people can be accommodated.

Class A motorhomes are equipped with a full range of luxuries, including a kitchen, a full bathroom that includes a shower and sometimes a separate bathtub, and depending on the layout of the unit, even a bedroom in the back that is a separate room with a door. Many of these rvs are just as luxurious as many custom homes, with amenities that include heat, air conditioning, hot and cold water, living areas that include a couch and recliner, closets, entertainment centers… whatever you can dream can become reality within a Class A motorhome.

Another option available on Class A motorhomes is a slide out room. This slide out room can be a small portion of the side of the unit or span the entire length of the recreational vehicle and with the push of a button the slide out portion expands outward to allow for added floor and living space while parked. Slideout rooms can increase the interior width of the rig by as much as 1 meter, or 3 ½ feet. This is especially handy when traveling with a group of people.

A major advantage to traveling in one of these large RV is that while moving, passengers can get up to prepare a quick meal, use the restroom, or lay down to sleep without having to pull off the road. This is especially convenient when traveling long distances.

Because of the stability and construction of Class A motorhomes, the ride is very smooth. Although they are quite large, they handle well on the road. Just about any driver with any kind of driving experience can drive these large vehicles with a little practice. Drivers don’t even need a special drivers license, unless the vehicle is equipped with air brakes.

Depending on the amenities, length, floor plan and brand, Class A motorhomes span a large price range. The smaller models with fewer upgrades can start at around $50,000, and the larger models with a variety of upgrades can run well over $300,000, and higher depending on equipment and options. Many Class A motorhomes are comparable in price to some high priced luxury homes, with equipment that would rival some custom homes. The more luxurious Class A motorhomes have a starting price of over $300,000, and can run up to over $1 million. Some people even purchase these vehicles to live in as their permanent residence, affording them the opportunity of having a luxury home on wheels, and the ability to travel across the country in style.

Because some people do live in their RV’s year-round, Class A motorhomes come with an option of being fully winterized. Options included on a winterized RV are a high BTU furnace, heated water tanks, a better grade of insulation and double-pane windows.

Many people who purchase this size RV choose to tow a gas-efficient vehicle behind for sightseeing when reaching a destination. Once parked and hooked up, it is a hassle to unhook the utilities for a quick run to the corner market for groceries. This is another option for those who take long road trips or for those who are year-round RV’ers. Tow vehicles range from very small cars to SUV’s, with the larger tow vehicles affecting the overall gas mileage on the rig.
